Mint is a terribly exciting plant. It might look a bit dull, but when you discover that you can grow chocolate mint, orange mint, banana mint, ginger mint, moroccan mint, eau de cologne mint and apple mint, the plant suddenly gains a great deal more appeal.
Mint prefers cool, slightly damp soil, and is very happy in partial shade. So happy in fact that it can spread and take over your border. You can plant mint among other plants by placing it in a pot and sinking the pot into the soil with the rim just proud of the surface. Or you can play it safe, as I have done, and plant it in standalone pots.
This is chocolate mint, which makes a rather marvellous tea. And the best and easiest way of making this tea is to place a handful of leaves in a tea strainer and dip into a cup of boiling water to brew. Simple.
