It’s that time of year again. When your fruit bushes are so overflowing with produce you scarcely know what to do. And when your kitchen worktops are covered in gleaming jars, ready to be filled with damsons and gooseberries. It’s jam-making time.
Jam really is marvellous. When I was a fresher at university, instead of stocking my mini-fridge with beer, I filled it with jars and jars of jam from the farm next to our house. At 2am you could find a group of tired students tucking into gooseberry and elderflower, bramble, greengage and blackcurrant jam on toast. Jam is one of the best anti-grumpy foods ever, which is why making it is so very important.
