If Sunday’s Christmas Box left you longing for more colour in your garden, fear not. There’s a fabulous, scented winter iris that will do just the trick. This is the Algerian Iris, and in spite of the decidedly warmer climes it hails from, it just loves to pop its flamboyant head out in the middle of January.
What a result! If you give this Iris a good haircut in August, you’ll find the first flowers sneaking out in November. They’ll hang about until March when they let the rest of the garden wake up and take over the entertainment. Plant rhizomes just below the soil surface.
