I know I’ve picked some rather well-known Plants to Love for February, but I just couldn’t resist gushing about my favourite spring plants. In case you feel I’ve let you down, here’s a real beauty that not many people have heard of. The Paper Bush (Edgeworthia chrysantha) takes a little bit of work and careful planting, but it is one of those incredibly valuable early-flowering, scented shrubs. It is rather valuable in its home country, Japan, as well, where its papery bark is used to make banknotes.
If you live on a windswept hill in Yorkshire, then you should probably pass this shrub by. But in a warmer part of the country, it will settle in well into a snug spot.
