I wanted to create a window display that would take up the minimum of space and also tackle the difficult problem of reflections, by making the reflections a part of the display.
With a couple of assistants, I denuded sunflowers and delphiniums of their petals. They were then individually coated with petroleum jelly, which acted as both an adhesive and a way of sealing in the moisture, thus sustaining the life of the window display.
Every single petal was placed by hand on the window. The colours of sunflowers and delphinium are intense and almost complimentary. The petals lend themselves well to this technique, as they hold their colour and last well.
The ‘blown circle’ design was chosen as a contrast to the grid-like urban environment in which the shop is located and as a way of revealing the petals as they float away.
