If you’re the sort of pessimistic gardener who sees the miserable side to everything, you’ll be grumbling about this weather. Humph, you’ll be saying: all this sunshine will only bring those nasty cabbage white caterpillars out, and they’ll eat all my purple sprouting broccoli before I’ve had a go at it.
I’m a rather happy-go-lucky gardener, which means that I’ve had nets over my brassicas ever since late winter, so that when the butterflies start prancing round my garden, they can lay their eggs on any plant they like, except my precious purple-sprouting broccoli. That way we’re both happy.
