The marvellous quince stars as the best autumn ingredient over at the Telegraph.
Clever gardeners do this
Use an old, clean plastic milk bottle to make a plant feed that can overwinter. Stuff the bottle three quarters full with comfrey, borage or seaweed, and fill with water. Leave in the shed. When you open it in the spring to give your plants their first early perk-up, the stuff will stink. But it will also be pretty potent: dilute one part feed to nine parts water.
