When will the worst of winter be behind us? Soon, I hope. I cannot wait, cannot wait, to make my garden ready for summer. I’ve been planning a sunflower screen after I stumbled across this idea, and I hope that in six months’ time, I’ll be sitting in front of it on some wooden garden furniture (from Hayes, linked here) in the sun, looking at the lovely brightly coloured heads. It’s not just bold yellow petals, but the deep rubies of the red sunflowers, the white sunflowers and the amazing ‘Pastiche’ sunflowers that I’ve got planned. I like my gardens bright and breezy.
For the time being, I’ve got some less bright and bold but no less beautiful hellebores from Hayes Garden World dotted around the front garden instead. I love their little dainty Toy Town faces which nod in the flower beds. One day my dream is for the beds to be full of these intricately-patterned flowers, which I hope will be soon as they tend to self-seed pretty prolifically.
But for the time being, it’s grim out there, so very grim. My shoes are soggy every time I get home from work from trudging through the snow (yes, it’s horrid out there and the snow still hasn’t melted in our parts). The other day I slipped over in the mud on a patch of ice. Oh, the misery of winter! Thank goodness it is nearly over.

Love the idea of the sunflower screen. I bought a big selection pack of different varieties in an end of season sale last year, so I’ll be giving that a try!
