A perfect combination

It’s easy to fall in love with a bunch of plants and throw them together in a garden without thinking. But plants need to look good together as well as on their own.

Here’s one combination that I love: green-white mophead Viburnum opulus planted with rich purple lilacs. The two colours set each other off so beautifully, and make you appreciate each plant even more than if it was on its own.

What fabulous combinations do you use in your garden?

I currently have swathes of Queen of the Night tulips, with tall white ones and pale pink ones (can’t remember which ones these are).

One combination I have that looks really good right now is a pairing of ‘Silver Scrolls’ heucheras in front of ‘Cherry Garden’ dwarf iris. The color of the iris flowers and the heuchera leaves is a splendid match!

Another pairing I love is alchemilla mollis and veronica ‘Royal Blue’. They bloom at the same time, and the blue veronica spilling out from between the yellow alchemilla is just so sparkling!
