HomeblogCheeky chillies Ooh it’s enough to give you the willies… I am now officially initiated as a gardener. This is because I have discovered the ‘Peter Pepper’ chilly, or Capsicum annuum var. annuum, or CHILLI WILLIES®, as trademarked by the Chilli Willy company. These magical specimens are very rare type of chilli pepper that grow completely naturally, without modification, into the shape of a…*cough* willy *cough*. Image by David L.Ketcham It was originally an American native grown in Texas and Louisiana as part of ornamental collections. The chillies that the Chilli Willy® plant produces are very hot, almost ten times hotter than Jalapeno Peppers, which is one of their closest relatives. My brother-in-law is a bit of a chilly expert and has kindly given me a whole plant to look after myself! So the chilli willy adventure starts here. The website boasts that Chilli Willies have won several awards, including Best Tasting Chilli and Most Pornographic Pepper by Organic Gardening Magazine, though I do wonder if they had much competition in such a specific category. However, there are some impressively dedicated blogs out there which celebrate all the bizarrely rude vegetables that nature throws out to keep herself amused, though it would lower the tone of this stylish gardening blog to post too many! That said, I’m planning to buy loads of them over the next few months as I reckon they’d make brilliant birthday gifts, especially gifts for her, or gifts for women. Researching the post has led me to an unexpected end – I stumbled across this link to the vegetable orchestra of Vienna. They play their music entirely on fresh vegetables; it has to be seen to be believed. Share this:Share Leave a Reply Cancel Reply Your email address will not be published.
