Homeblog‘Invincible’ squash A long-lasting, beautifully-flavoured and large-fruited squash makes it on to the keeper list from this year’s crop. I grew two very, very similar squash this year. One is ‘Invincible’, an F1 hybrid, and the other was its heirloom cousin, ‘Crown Prince’. Both have an excellent reputation for flavour and for storing for a good long time. This weekend, I cooked the ‘Invincible’ in a Pie of Happiness. In contrast to the ‘Burgess Buttercup’ squash that I cooked in the same recipe, this cultivar has a firmer flesh and a nuttier flavour. It is still beautifully sweet, though. It also has a nicely thick skin, which means it will store really well through the winter and into the early spring should I wish. So another flavour success from this year’s crop of squash. The big test will be how it fares against ‘Crown Prince’.
