Spring balcony

Old staples and new sticks hold the balcony together at the start of spring.

Yes, yes, everything is so terribly behind this year. The daffodils on the balcony are only just starting to flower. There’s one tulip in flower, but that’s only because I bring my tulips on indoors as the balcony isn’t quite sunny enough to bring them out of their shells.

I’m bringing the pelargoniums out onto the balcony during the day to harden them off a bit, and give them a bit of air. But really the things that are holding this little garden together are the wonderful ferns and the dogwood peasticks in my new railing planters (more on these soon). The herb garden is clear, save a pineberry, two blood-veined sorrels and two tarragon plants. I’ve got a whole heap of exciting plants on their way when the weather improves. And indoors, I’m starting off some peashoots in the white self-watering windowboxes so that I can get going with outdoor salads as soon as possible.
