OK, so it’s not so much a march as a beautiful, dignified creep. But every time I visit the allotment, the rhubarb gives me cause for joy. This is ‘Timperley Early’, which I planted two years ago. And it’s going great guns. What joy to have such a strange-looking plant peeking up from the soil at this time of the year, when everything else is grey or brown!
