Even though I love my allotment, I do need a bit of coaxing to go up there at this time of the year. Especially when the only jobs are weeding and pruning. Neither of these are much fun in the cold and wet, but both need doing if I’m going to have a hope of staying on top of things once the growing season begins. But recently it has been a bit easier because we’ve got our hands on some all-weather wear to keep us warm and dry. Dickies sent us a very warm coat and some waterproof trousers to review. Here’s what I thought of it. First up, the Hudson Jacket. This is a smart thing indeed. It’s not just a waterproof jacket with two zips and a velcro over-flap to keep you warm. It also has a fleece that hooks into the jacket which means you are incredibly warm and snug. I was out in this jacket yesterday for an hour and a half, and the only bits of me that felt cold were outside the jacket. And now the Raintite Trousers. They are surprisingly soft and gentle for rainproof trousers, which can sometimes feel like you’re wearing a sail. They also have pocket holes so you’re not stupidly bundled up with nowhere to put your things. All in all, very snug and dry. Now I have no excuse to stay away from the allotment.
