F&F reviews two summer drinks from the Lyme Bay Winery. One of the nicest things about finally having a garden is sitting outside on one of the warm summer evenings that we’ve been blessed with recently and drinking a lovely garden drink. Lyme Bay Winery have been one of my favourite drinks makers ever since I used to visit Gay’s Creamery in Dawlish in my early twenties. Gay’s Creamery is a wonderful old-world shop with walls of fruit wines from Lyme Bay, and whenever I could scrape together enough money for a treat as a student, I’d buy a bottle of their damson wine or sloe liqueur to cheer me through my university days. Lyme Bay sent me two lovely summer drinks to sip in my garden one evening: an Annings Fruit Cider and some Summa That ale. The fruit cider was Strawberries and Lyme and we drank this while expanding the hen garden (more on that soon). It looks beautiful: And it tastes fabulous. Really beautiful and warm and fruity but not too sweet and sufficiently ciderish to make me very happy indeed. As for the Summa That, which I drank one hot evening while sowing salad seeds… This really was a lovely English Pale Ale. It is perfect for drinking on a hot day as it is light and has a good enough tang-combined-warmth that it refreshes you and makes you think what a marvellous hot sunny day it is, which is exactly what I was aiming for. I think the Lyme Bay Winery are still my favourite drinks seller. They do send me drinks for free, but they don’t ask me to write nice things. It’s just that the things I drink from them really are marvellous. I’ll buy more of them for myself for more hot sunny evenings, and that’s the acid test of anything you’re sent for free. If you’d buy it, then it’s a winner. Cheers! Share this:Share Leave a Reply Cancel Reply Your email address will not be published.
