The first strawberries ripen in the new garden. Bang on time for Wimbledon, the strawberries are starting to ripen. I don’t like tennis, but I do love strawberries, and so when the first big fat fruit appeared in my strawberry bed, I was jolly chuffed. Unfortunately, I have no idea what it tasted like, because when I showed it to my fellow F&F gardener, he gobbled it down in one. Growing your own is so hard at times. Now that we’re into fruiting time, I’ll put a load of straw down around the strawberry plants to help keep the fruits dry. It also makes the bed look lovely and neat.
