Beautiful veronica and verbascum flowers make their mark in the new long border. I’ve tried to incorporate many different shapes of flower into the main border in the dream garden. But one particular shape, the spire, is looking especially beautiful at present. This is Veronica ‘Atomic Red Ray’ which I did grow at the allotment last year, but have moved down now that we’ve given up the plot. It has formed a lovely little clump in the long border. It grows about 50cm high, and will spread nicely. I’ve planted all three plants together for better impact. I’ve also repetitively planted certain flowers and foliage plants throughout this border to pull it all together and make it look intentional, rather than accidental. This bronze fennel is one: But the verbascums that self-seeded themselves all over my old allotment are another repeat plant: Some people don’t like verbascums because they are insufficiently blousy. I find their silver leaves and subtle yellow flowers useful contrasts in the flower bed, although my main bugbear is the way the bottom leaves can look a bit worn out when the plant starts flowering. My long bed is now completely planted, although of course it feels far from complete. But I’m pleased that just a couple of months after we moved to the dream garden, I’m already seeing lovely, eye-catching results. Leave a Reply Cancel Reply Your email address will not be published.
