But if I do have a few that I haven’t eaten while harvesting, the best way of using them up is to do some berrylicious boozing, which I’ve done with these lovely drinks. They’re tasty and they’re quirky and they’re just the kind of thing a gardener should serve up at a party on one of these unseasonably warm evenings. There are two things that are important in a cocktail. The first is to use really good flavours: so top quality ingredients. If you’re growing your own berries then you can be sure of that, and if you add, as I did, a sprig of a herb to one of them, then you can introduce complex undertones that those consuming the drink will appreciate but won’t be able to identify. The same goes for the booze that you use. You want the flavour to be noticeable, but only to the extent that it contributes to the cocktail, rather than dominates. There are loads of cocktail recipeshere that can help you with this. Here are my recipes. The first is a lovely raspberry gin cocktail with Gordon’s Gin. Print Raspberry and rosemary cocktail Author: Fennel & Fern Recipe type: Cocktail Cuisine: Botanical Prep time: 10 mins Total time: 10 mins Serves: 1 A fruit and herb-infused vodka cocktail. Ingredients 8 Raspberries 2 tbsp Simple syrup (one part sugar, one part water) 2 oz Gin 1 tbsp Fresh lemon juice 1 tbsp soda water 1 cup ice, crushed 1 sprig rosemary, chopped Directions Crush the ice in the cocktail shaker and add the raspberries and rosemary. Mash well. Add all the other ingredients apart from the soda and shake well. Pour into a highball glass and add the soda water. Decorate with another small sprig of rosemary and a lemon slice. 3.2.2802 And this is a blueberry vodka drink which was oh so sweet and delicious and used Smirnoff vodka. Ingredients 8 Blueberries 2 tbsp Simple syrup (one part sugar, one part water) 2 oz gin 1 tbsp Fresh lemon juice 1 cup ice, crushed Directions Crush the ice in the cocktail shaker and add the blueberries.
