HomeblogPerfect paperwhite daffodils Narcissus ‘Paperwhite’ is a perfect flower for forcing indoors over winter. These paperwhite daffodils have made the days indoors over winter so much happier. I got the bulbs from Plant Me Now back in the autumn and planted them 5 weeks ago. That was all the time they needed indoors to come right up and flower, filling the room with their incredibly intense scent. There is something so pure and innocent about the simple green and white of a forced paperwhite daffodil. Of course it tricks you rather to have daffodils indoors at this time of year, but it’s not hard to suspend your disbelief when something so pretty is in front of you. Once the daffodils have finished flowering, I cut the flower stalk off so that the energy goes into the bulb, not the seedhead, place the plants in a cold frame, and give them a feed with some overwintered (and therefore extremely stinky) comfrey tea for six weeks as the foliage dies back. This gives them the best chance of flowering in another year. Next year, though, that’ll be in a sheltered spot in the garden rather than in my house, which will be playing host to another set of beautiful forced paperwhites.
