Violas are such a good way of brightening up a winter garden. These winter violas, standing in a neat row in pots, make the view from my kitchen window so much more cheerful. I have long loved neat little pots of violas, and the way our patio is constructed, with those big stark beams, creates a perfect stage for a winter display from these plucky little plants. I planted these violas as I was preparing my autumn and winter pots, saying as I did that these would brighten up dark days no end. Well, they are doing a splendid job of that in the first proper working week of the year. They are a lovely mixture of Viola Sorbet Lemon Jump Up, Viola Sorbet Blue Blotch and and Viola Sorbet White Jump, all from Plant Me Now’s winter bedding plant range. The only thing I really need to keep an eye on is that these plants are getting enough moisture, especially when we’ve been getting hard frosts overnight. it’s easy to forget that containers can dry out in the winter as well as in the summer, so do check the soil in the pots every so often.
