Tulipa humilis ‘Persian Pearl’ is a beautiful early tulip.

Before all the bright reds and cheery yellows of the standard garden tulips appear, earlier, sweeter blooms appear.

Though Tulipa humilis is a small, dainty plant, you can’t accuse its flowers of being humble. They shout!

They open when sunny, and the flowers do not last very long at all. This is ‘Persian Pearl’, which I got from Plant Me Now.

As soon as they’re spent, you should cut the flowering stem off, and then start feeding the tulip plants with a tomato fertiliser (comfrey tea is perfect) until the foliage has died back, in order to feed the bulb.

Grow in well-drained soil in full sunlight.
