A regular update on the progress of our dream garden project.

Follow the progress of the Dream Garden from start to finish here.

Suddenly, everything in the garden looks as though it has been flowering and in leaf forever, even though really a lot is still unfurling. In exposed spots the beech leaves are still creeping out of their buds, and many herbaceous plants are only just starting to get going. But it’s difficult to remember how bare and still everything felt just a month ago, isn’t it?

Let’s just take a moment to enjoy the tulips.

It’s good to get that out of the system, isn’t it?

How about the leaves of a fresh copper beech?

What a wonderful time of year this is. And look: there’s so much more to come:

Next year, more tulips in the herbaceous border. More of the varieties I’ve already planted: ‘Queen of the Night’, ‘Black Parrot’, ‘Wedding Gift’ and ‘Spring Green’, and more of some others along the same colour scheme.

Next year, more tulips in tubs everywhere.

Keep those ideas on how to improve the dream garden coming: I take all of them on board (even the ones I then decide to disagree with). And tweet @fennelandfern with pictures from your own gardens too. I’ll add them below.
