A family apple tree has different varieties of fruit grafted onto one trunk. My family apple tree looks absolutely beautiful at the moment. The blossom is so pretty. All apple trees are special and magical, especially at this time of the year. But this is an especially fantastic tree as it won’t just produce one crop of apples. These branches will have three different apples on them because a family apple tree is one with three different varieties grafted on to it. This one has ‘Fiesta’, ‘Herefordshire Russet’ and ‘Sunset’ grafted on to the same trunk. It’s from Ashridge Trees. I have planted this at the end of the lavender bed, so I can see the blossom from the study window every day as I work. It brings spring to a patch of the garden where other plants have either finished flowering, and before the summer flowers are out. I cannot wait to see this grow - and yield more apples and different apples, too.
