The herbaceous border in the dream garden is packed with bulbs.
Am I allowed to feel a little bit proud of this border, a year after we moved in to this garden?

Well, even if you won’t let me, I’ll have a jolly good moment of pride. This is what the garden looked like on the very first evening that we got here:

That was a year ago. Here’s how it has changed in a year.
There are lots of bits of the garden that I’m proud of. But the herbaceous border and willow arch are the ones I think of the most.
At the moment, the tulips are dominating, though there is plenty of foliage working away too. I thought a lot about textures and colours when I planted this border up: the golden leaves of the dogwood, the deep red foliage of a peony plant and purple of the black elder, the silver of the artichoke and the frothy blue-green bronze fennel. These leaves make the border as much as the tulips and the alliums.
