A regular update on the progress of our dream garden project.

23 August
Follow the progress of the Dream Garden from start to finish here.
The late summer colours and crops are here.

As you can see from the full garden photo, the border still has gaps in it, but the red lilies are making a big difference. The fennel looks sad, but the artichokes and the verbena look beautiful.

We have so many tomatoes. All green.
And the edible flower patch (which contains non-edible sweet peas, I know), is so bright and cheery!

That’s not the last of the nasturtiums. They’re also romping up the tree stump at the top of the garden:

I love this abundant time of the year, when everything is trying to take over.
Some plants were a surprise. This gladioli was cream when I ordered it from the bulb company…

While I had no idea this clematis had such prolific, beautiful blooms:

In the pots on the patio, the lilies are coming to an end.

But the pelargoniums are going strong.

All in all, a good late summer.
23 August critique
Border gaps remain. Something I will address next year. Right now I’m compiling my daffodil order.

Keep those ideas on how to improve the dream garden coming: I take all of them on board (even the ones I then decide to disagree with). And tweet @fennelandfern with pictures from your own gardens too. I’ll add them below.

Beautiful photos - and it always amazes me that the colour combinations nature throws together looks so good together, but somehow less so if we were to wear the same ones! #hdygg
Oh my goodness, the clematis is gorgeous!
I love the variety of colour in your garden, the yellows and purples go so well together.
Thanks Amanda. It’s my favourite clematis. In fact, there’s a whole separate post coming up on it as it’s just so good.
