HomeblogHow the dream garden grows A regular update on the progress of our dream garden project. 30 August Follow the progress of the Dream Garden from start to finish here. One of the projects I am so, so glad that I undertook this year was renovating the lavender bed. It was also the project I was most uncomfortable doing, as it involved digging up a load of living plants. But how glad I am now that I did! Along the front I planted a lot of reasonably well-sized young Lavandula angustifolia plants from Gardening Express. They looked like this when I started: And now they look like this: I was worried that I wouldn’t get the wonderful waving display of flowers at the top of my patio as I did last year. But I was too anxious: these plants have filled out beautifully. Behind them, I planted a line of different varieties of lavender from Lavender World. As you can see, they are much smaller, but they are still doing very well indeed, given how small they were when we got them. There are white lavenders: Mid-purple lavenders: And deep purple lavender: Yes, I’m glad that I took the plunge and renovated that bed. It will look smart in the winter as well as when it is flowering. Hoorah. 31 August critique Gladioli look messy. This is partly because of the rain and also because they are competing for space with the currants. I may move them to the other side of the patch when I plant their corms next spring, or to another bed entirely. Rhubarb is swamping everything. I have decided to move all the rhubarb plants to a new bed that runs along the wooden edging on the left of the garden. Keep those ideas on how to improve the dream garden coming: I take all of them on board (even the ones I then decide to disagree with). And tweet @fennelandfern with pictures from your own gardens too. I’ll add them below. @fennelandfern sometimes ours is like this! pic.twitter.com/5Etu6mIOgO — John Heather (@jh_heather) August 31, 2015 @fennelandfern harvesting my chillies pic.twitter.com/O1cabCUGex — Alexandra Campbell (@midsizegarden) August 31, 2015 @fennelandfern I had finished all my seedings — clown of my garden (@saudihomegarden) August 31, 2015 Leave a Reply Cancel Reply Your email address will not be published.
