HomeblogGarden gladioli Yellow gladioli make good cut flowers. I never intended to grow yellow gladioli. They’re not my favourite. I love rich red glads, or pure white. The only colour I dislike more is peach. But for some reason, when I ordered white gladioli this year for a small cutting border at the edge of the currant patch, the bulb company sent me yellow corms in a packet that boasted of containing white-flowered plants. This isn’t something you find out until the white flowers you’d been hoping for open and look like this: Definitely not white. Still, as it’s a cutting border, I don’t mind too much. They look cheerful enough in a vase indoors, brightening up my sitting room on a grey rainy day (we’ve had a few too many of those recently, haven’t we?). Cutting the flowering stalk is good for the corm, as it doesn’t exhaust it with the full act of flowering. All the same, I tend to give my cutting plants a really good high potash comfrey tea once a week until the foliage dies back. Then I lift them, store them in a dry place, and plant again in the spring. Leave a Reply Cancel Reply Your email address will not be published. Name* Email* Website Comment
