F&F reviews some clever flavoursome growing crates.

I can’t wait for the growing season to begin this year. I say that every year, but it’s rare at this stage in winter to have new toys that I can’t wait to play with. A few weeks ago Stacks of Flavour sent me these two crates to review. They’re waiting in the greenhouse for Spring to approach so that I can get sowing.

Stacks of Flavour are portable crates from Suttons, and include collections of tasty vegetables picked by James Wong. They are aimed at people who don’t own their own property, as they don’t require any digging or much space, and the collections of seeds mean you don’t even need to dither over what to grow.

I chose ‘Speedy Leaves‘ and ‘Over the Rainbow‘, partly because they contain crops that I absolutely love devouring.

I was especially pleased that you can personalise these crates, as I absolutely love having Fennel & Fern all over the garden. I love writing this blog, and I love little reminders of all the fun I have with it as I’m pottering about in the fresh air.

They come with their own liners, which means that the good-quality wood will last longer, rather than rotting as a result of constant contact with cold, wet soil.

And they come with planting plans too!

I’ve been gardening now for decades. But this would be a perfect present for someone who is tentatively starting to grow their own in a small space.

The only gripe I have with these sorts of crates is that I’d love for there to be a plug plant option as well as seeds, so that I could send one to a friend who might just need that extra encouragement of something that’s already up and growing. But for me, these crates are just perfect. I’ll let you know how I get on with the seeds later in the year.
