If you’re the sort of impulsive plant lover who demands instant results, then you won’t fall in love with the Giant Himalayan Lily, and more fool you – this slow-burn plant is one of the best.
The bulbs may take up to seven years before they flower (even longer if you try to grow the plant from the seeds hidden in its giant pods), but when they do, it is worth all the wait in the world. Enormous flower spikes shoot up to twice the height of a grown man, and burst into huge, beautifully-scented trumpets. The flowering display can last up to three months, and is followed by huge, alien seedheads.
