A new greenhouse A new mini greenhouse joins the F&F garden. Ever since we moved into our new house, we’ve been a little confused by a reasonably sizeable area of laid wood between our strawberry bed and our back door. It became a bit of a dumping ground for garden tools and empty pots, and also a place where the outdoor cat litter tray sat. None of which was very pretty. But then we had an idea. This patch was a really sunny, sheltered spot. Why not put a greenhouse there? So we did. This mini greenhouse is from Shed Store and we were sent it to review. It came in a flatpack, but was extremely easy to assemble and its parts all seem to be of good quality. The wood, for instance, is pre-treated, which I like because it means you can just get on with it. Not all of these things are pre-treated, and having had to treat a hen coop this year, I know that it can add a couple of days of work and hassle. The two front doors and the roof lifting up mean that I can manage the aeration of the greenhouse, and the three levels will be really useful for bringing young plants on in the spring as they give me loads of space. But my one problem with this product is that you do not have a huge amount of flexibility over the shelves, because you have to screw them in, whereas in other greenhouses, you can easily lift them off and move them about as plants like tomatoes grow larger. But it won’t take forever to remove those shelves with a screwdriver when midsummer comes and I need height, rather than lots of shelving space. I’m looking forward to having more space to grow tender crops. I’ll let you know how I get on this year.
